We are very excited to showcase Vox Ethnika Band (formerly known as S-Harmony or Slovak Harmony). With a new name we are bringing you a new format and new level of music making and music sharing.
Vox Ethnika’s unique compositional approach to music received a wide recognition and has been very successful. Our CD albums have been distributed in USA, Canada and Europe. At this point we are proud to declare our style of transforming the East European folk music as influential.
The band was founded by siblings Juraj and Silvia Matolak in 1994 and has since collaborated with numerous accomplished musicians in the NYC area. Juraj, who orchestrates and composes most of the music for the band, has a degree in music composition and plays numerous instruments – first one being accordion which he picked up at the age of 3. He is also a skilled sound designer and has done numerous pre and post production projects for accomplished artists on the East Coast.
Silvia is the vocal chord of the band. Her melodramatic mezzo-soprano voice has won numerous singing competitions and brings chills to the crowds…
Larry Bozek keeps the beat and generates rhythms in the band. His hybrid acoustic/electric drum set allows him to add various colors of world’s percussion.Susan Matolak is the newest and youngest member of Vox Ethnika. She started to play the violin when she was 7 years old and has been distinctively skilled in her ability to rotate between performing Folk, Classical pieces and Broadway show tunes to playing modern and contemporary music on her Fender- electric violin and Ovation –electric/acoustic mandolin. Her famous custom-built setup includes the latest technological FX processors such as: guitar pedals, synths and harmonizers that can make her instruments sound unmistakably unique.
We are the only band that performs Eastern European Folk and Pop music (Czech, Slovak, Lemko, Polish, Rusyn, Ukrainian, etc. YES!!! All of them !!!!) set to unique modern arrangements and also not exclusive to American music – from the twenties to contemporary top hits.
